CoOPERAtivity, for people with Alzheimer's or other forms of dementia)

CoOPERAtività is a project dedicated to people with Alzheimer's or other forms of dementia and the people caring for them, developed in partnership with "RSA Le Magnolie" and the "Casa di Riposo C.S.D. Il Gignoro”.

This program is part of the LIGET Program*, by Opera di Santa Maria del Fiore.

The project uses dialogue-based and creative narration activities carried out in the Museum and in the monuments of the Opera di Santa Maria del Fiore with the intent to reach a series of objectives, including promotion of well-being, expression, management and sharing of emotions, finding new forms of communication, generating opportunities for social inclusion by breaking down the stigma surrounding people with cognitive impairment and their families, integrating them into a network of cultural and social support.

The name CoOPERAtività (CoOPERAtivity) is the joining of several words: is linked to collaboration, as a set of experiences, skills, stories, emotions and thoughts, to the name of the institution Opera di Santa Maria del Fiore and finally to creativity as well as industriousness, proactive living, an important element to be stimulated daily in the lives of elderly people in particular, but also in everyone else.

On Wednesdays, from 3.00 p.m. to 5.00 p.m., from January to June (first session) and from September to December (second session) we have scheduled a series of meetings, each one of which consists of two different activities; some extra meetings are scheduled during the rest of the year.

Meetings are free, but reservation is required.

CoOPERAtività is part of the Tuscany Region network project Tuscan Museums for Alzheimer's.

Project staff consists of two museum operators, two animators with geriatrics qualifications, a psychologist, and a photographer to testify and evaluate qualitatively and quantitatively the development and planning of the activities.

*Liget Program: A series of projects of designed for people with neurocognitive or neurodevelopmental disorders, people suffering from cognitive, behavioural and/or social discomfort, their family members and caregivers (e.g. animators with geriatrics qualifications, professional educators and so on).
