From this balcony overlooking the Galleria della Cupola, a skylight offers an unusual view of Brunelleschi’s dome. Here are also displayed six reliefs from Castel di Sangro in the Abruzzi, close in style to works by Nicola di Guardiagrele, who in 1433-1438 created an important silver altar-frontal for the Cathedral of Teramo. In these reliefs, as in the altar front, several scenes replicate compositions and figures derived from Lorenzo Ghiberti’s first bronze door for the Baptistery of San Giovanni – the so-called ‘north door’ -, confirming that work’s influence outside Florence and Tuscany.
The ticket allows the holder to visit all the monuments within 72 hours of visiting the first one. Each monument may be visited only once with the ticket.
Reservations mandatory for the climb on the Dome. The service is free.
